Questions about SaxBuddy

What is SaxBuddy?

SaxBuddy is a free play-along practice app for saxophone players, from SaxShop Manila in the Philippines. You practise with minus one tracks: slow a song down without changing its key, listen to the saxophone part first, then switch it off and play it yourself.

Is SaxBuddy a minus one app?

Yes. Every song comes as a minus one backing track and a version with the saxophone, so you can hear how it goes, then play the sax part yourself over the backing track.

How much does it cost?

The app is free. Songs come from SaxShop Manila. Message the shop to see which songs are available.

How do I get songs?

Message SaxShop Manila on Facebook Messenger. The shop sends the song's files and, the first time, a code. Sign in to SaxBuddy, enter the code once, then add the files. New songs don't need a new code.

Can I slow a song down without changing the key?

Yes. Slow it down to as little as 40% of its speed and it stays in the same key, so you can learn a hard part at your own pace. You can also loop the bars you keep missing.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. Once your songs are added, they play with no signal. About once a week SaxBuddy needs to go online for a moment to confirm your access.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. SaxBuddy runs in your phone's browser, and you can add it to your Home Screen so it opens like an app. It also works on a computer. There's nothing to download from an app store.

Is my music uploaded anywhere?

No. Your songs stay on your own phone or computer. SaxBuddy never uploads, stores or shares your music.

Who records the songs?

The songs are recorded for SaxShop Manila, played on saxophone over the backing track.
